My Experience of Making This Game

My Big Idea

My learning topic for this game is trying to teach people about the endangered animals in Costa Rica. The most important thing I want the players to learn is that there are endangered animals in the world and some people know they are causing it and don't care, and there are some people that are trying to help but they have no power over it! :(

Research

I did a lot of research, I researched what species are being endangered in Costa Rica and what types of habitats they live in. I also researched things like what caused these species to be endangered and if they were caused by humans or if it was caused by natural causes. I learned that there are a lot of animals that are endangered and some people are trying to help and there are some people that just don't care, but they don't realize that if an animal goes extinct, it can mess up the entire food chain and can damage things permanently! People might think that it won't affect us because we don't have a use for them or something but it does. Like for example, if anteaters go extinct, there will be too many ants in the world because even if there are other animals that eat ants, anteaters eat only ants so they are the ants biggest predator. Not only will the ants be overpopulated, they will have an effect on us, we will be getting bitten by some deadly ones [and even if they're not deadly there are people that are allergic to them].

Making Decisions

As I worked on my game, my ideas changed. They changed in a way that I didn't think they would. At first I was only doing it because it was for a grade, but then I actually found it very interesting. :) I thought it was interesting that people think a whole lot different way than I do. And that some don't care even the people that know that it could affect human society. It changed my point of view on the way I was going to present my game. I thought that if I just put in facts out of nowhere that people wouldn't like it or wouldn't care for it, so I put it so when people play my game, they would get facts on it while playing.

Mastering Programming

The most helpful resources so far have been the wiki tips and the game ingredients on the side bar of the wiki. These have been the most helpful so far because on the page, there are videos and codes for flash and it tells you directions from step to step.

Overcoming Challenges

The most difficult part of making the game [for me] was having to put in detail for the drawings. Other than that it was pretty easy for me, I thought the codes were easy. :) I couldn't really overcome this challenge because I had to draw the animals but I liked it in the end, it was worth it. I am most proud of the message box feature and the scoring, I didn't know how to do that last year so that's why I'm proud of it! :D

Choosing Learning Topic

I like this topic [endangered animals]  for my Hidden Object game because I like animals and it's good to show people what is going on in the world. We have to show people that there are problems and we need to fix them. Why sit there when you could be telling someone about everything that is going on in our world and how it affects not only the animals but us as well. There are some people that know that this is happening and they aren't doing anything about it. And yet there are people who want to do something about it and aren't doing anything. I would like to be that person to inform people about this topic. That is why I chose this topic. :)

Add Hidden Objects

This isn't my first time programming in flash. I worked in

flash for the last three years. Next I would like to add the

decoy objects, then the scoring action. That is pretty much

everything... :)

Paper Prototype

Making a paper prototype was hard because you have to draw everything and you have to do it perfectly, and if you don't then that's how it's going to be on the image gallery, flash, and on your projects page. I think it's better in flash because you don't have to worry about it being perfect. It helped me to solve a lot of things with my game idea, like where to hide my hidden objects and where to put my decoy objects. It also helped me solve my idea, and what my background should be.

Flash

I drew my background in flash, it was kind of easy because I get to trace it and not just do it off the back of my hand. And I also like it because you don't have to do it perfect [you can always go back later on and fix or adjust the little kinks]. It also doesn't require a lot of perfection with compared to drawing it by hand. In flash if you want to draw a strait line, there is a tool for that. And you don't have to worry about having a perfect circle, because there is a tool for that. There is pretty much a tool for everything, you don't have to do it by hand [technically]. It's just much easier doing it in flash with a mouse than drawing everything with a pencil and paper. It's also a little hard because when you have to trace something and it is too small, you have to zoom in and it doesn't clear it, like you zoom in and you can't see what your going to trace because it's so blurry. But over all it's much easier.

Plan Game Scene

My plan for this game is to be about endangered animals in the rain forests of Costa Rica. You need to pick the animals that are endangered, and leave the ones that aren't endangered alone. What excites me about it is the animals, because I love animals. I think it's very interesting to find out what animals are endangered and see wat I I can do to try to help or spread information about them.

Playing To Learn Part 1

By playing these games, I learned about animals, math, how to classify groups of organisms in order to repopulate ecosystems on earth, and I exercised how to find hidden clues. I got some ideas for my own game, like decoy objects, message box, intro to multiple levels or scenes, and splash screen. I got also got some ideas about the setting of the game,as well as the design, and the whole concept of it. That is most of what I learned and the ideas I got from the games I played.

Back to School

Welcome back Tigers! :P
So far this year I'm feeling okay, there has been some days where i just want to sleep in but I can't because I know I have to go to school and i have to be there everyday to be exemplary!
I have experienced a lot of positive things, most were my accomplishments in my grades and my progress in all of my classes! :) Others were making some new friends and staying with my old friends, it's been a lot of fun and I have just loved everything about this school... it's been awesome!!! Plus our teachers don't give us a lot of homework, there's little class work but that's probably because it's only been the 1st 5 weeks.
Some of the challenges I have faced were all the schedule changes and I have thought a lot about the classes I am taking and seeing if I should stay in those classes for my own good... There has also been plenty of drama and there are some teachers that at first I didn't like but now I see they are kinda cool. :) It's been tough... But in the end of the week I get to sleep in a little, so it's okay to work my butt off just to get the grades that I get... :)

Forks over Knives

What do you think this documentary will be about?

I think it will be about eating and health and weight, which goes with health.

What do you think the title implies and indicates about the film?

It will talk about food.

Notes-

  • In the movie it talks about how the U.S has all these unhealthy foods with all kind of diseases...
  • And when they brought the food to Asia, Korea, Japan, China, Philippians, they converted them from slim and healthy to over weight and very unhealthy.
  • cancer is 1% or 2% past on by jeans
  • animal protein could possibly cause the cancer cells that some people eat
  • plant protein could decrease the possibility of having cancer
  • poor people are poor in everything, so they are vulnerable to cheap, fast, foods.
  • you can get a heart attack from unhealthy foods
  • you can get chest pains from unhealthy foods
  • plant based foods are over all better than meat foods

Final Playable Games

So, here were are at the end of the year! Can you believe how fast this school year went by? I can't believe it! It will only move quicker as you grow older. Remember to make the most of your youth so that you can one day look back on your accomplishments with pride.

Name of my team : Animal Lovers

Title of your game : A Race To Save Animals

Topic of your game : Adventure

The Learning Goal of our game is to be able to teach children that abusing animals is bad and you shouldn't do it.... it gives them a chance to see it in a game setting without it being real yet... to introduce them to animal abuse as a child so later when they see it in real life, they will know what it is and what to do.

The player will about the topic in our game by being able to see the animals in that situation and being able to do something about it in a game setting.

We would like to add / improve, in our game, when you go over the dogs... the score will add 1 point. We would also like to put in when you go in front of the flag, you would go to the next level or to the you lose / you win page.

The most challenging part of creating this game was getting the buttons to work and moving the "hero".

I am most proud of making the buttons work and I figured it out through critical thinking and trial /error.

Make sure you publish the post to double check that it is formatted correctly and that the game is playable. If it is not, you will lose points. By the way, you all did a fantastic job this year!

Respect

What is respect mean?

to respect is to show that you know there are worth and they deserve more than you can say.
(that's just my definition, in a strong way)

What does it look like?

respect looks like someone who does their work in class.
someone who gets to class on time.
someone who doesn't roam around the hallways just talking to people.
someone who doesn't throw food at lunch or breakfast and eats it instead of talking,
who doesn't misbehave, especially when visitors are on campus,
and someone who DOES BEHAVE when we go off campus and visit other places.

Nike Sweatshops
I think that Nike sweatshops are horrible! How can we, in a chathasism union, be convicted of enslaving women and children in a nike factory? How can someone live on a $1.25 minimum wage and not die? We are only human, this is wrong in so many ways. You have to work on extra hours to be able to support your family, or barely yourself. The kids sometimes can't even see their parents because they are working extra hours. The children don't even go to school. I just saw this kid that was smoking, and apparently he doesn't know how much effect it has on him that he can be taking away minutes and minutes away from his life. Also, the Nike factory dumps millions of that shoe rubber thing that they put on the bottom of your shoe, it's not just toxic for the people that work in the factory, but also toxic for the citizens of the city, including the children. Also, that's not it, they burn it to not have so much waste in their city. But what they don't know is that it also POLLUTES the environment, and that's what happens when you don't go to school.

The Nike issue continued...
Micheal More comes to Phil Knight with two tickets for both of them. He wanted to fight and keep on making excuses to not go and he just didn't want to confront the problem. So when Micheal said if he got people to say that they wanted a job in the Nike business, then he would see to it that he would think about making a Nike industry in Flint, Michigan. But when Micheal did, Phil still said no. So in the end, Micheal proposed that if he donated 10,000 dollars, then he would mach it. And only to that he agreed, not even to donate to schools without "matching" anything.
So now this guy went to Indonesia to see how much they needed to spend on daily necessities on a minimum wage. And he did and he found out that one regular plate of rice, vegetables, and chicken, all costs 9,000 rupiah and for a tea, it costs 2,000 rupiah. For soap, 1,000 rupiah. For shampoo, it's 2,000 rupiah. The rent was 250,000 rupiah (i think).
Then it showed that when that Phil Knight guy went on this show, not in person though, by web cam, and he said that he absolutely believes that they are living a good minimum wage and they can pay all there expenses and still have enough money to buy extra.

Human Trafficking
They are in debt. Their passports are take away from them. And now they are trapped. Everything is right next to each other. First there is their beds, then their "tub" where 100's of men bathe. Then there is the toilet which is right by where they make food. It stinks very bad. There housing is unacceptable. They have hired lawyers to hopefully win the case to give them their passports back. The impact on these workers is priceless. Now that supposedly the Nike corporation "knows" about it, they wanna say that they didn't know anything about it and that now they see what has been happening. But they knew all along what was happening, they just didn't want to do anything about it because it's not their problem. When they are all the way on the other side of the world, and you have the government, the police, and justice... on your side, you don't care to think about what people there are going through. Oh-h no but when it's right in your face, then you want to do something about it. When your there and experiencing it and it's there in your everyday life and you can't do anything about it, then you want to help!

Object in sky

I could take this real-life event and turn this into a game by making
a whole bunch of fireballs hit earth and you have to stop them.

The genre would focus on maybe action and/or science.

My game would teach a skill of fast thinking and moving.

The player would have to click on the fireballs and when they click the fireballs, they would disintegrate in to space debris again.

The hero is you on the computer clicking with the mouse, and you could say the enemy is the fireballs.

The type of animations would be the fireballs moving toward the earth.

The sounds would be the fireballs swooshing down to earth and also, when you click the fireballs and they disintegrate.

The title of my game would be "Destroy those fireballs!"

Action Script

Action Script is a language used on flash to program. One example of Action Script is maybe codes, layers, and programing (which is animation, sounds, buttons, drag & drop, timer, score keeper, and keyboard control.)
